The word "paper-machie" is french in origin meaning moulded pulp. The art of making articles of paper-machie, beautifully decorated in oriental motifs and handsomely lacquered. In India too, this art has existed since Moghul times and is most developed in Kashmir (India). Paper-machie is fully pupled and then the color is appolied first as a protective layer and decorative purpose.
